Did you go through all three rounds of counselling but couldn’t secure your desired seat at a reputed college?
But the good news is that there are still thousands of seats available in some of West Bengal’s sought-after universities.
But here’s the catch.
The WBJEE 2026 vacant seats do not mean you can walk into a college & take admission by paying a bill. WBJEE has announced an online decentralized counselling process to fill the remaining seats.
So, if you are waiting for another opportunity to get into a top-tier college after round 3, we are here to help you with the most important stages of WBJEE.
Seats left vacant due to WBJEE are those that have not been filled through the usual centralised counselling process.
The list for WBJEE 2026 Round 3 allotment result was released on July 28. The process of admissions and reporting followed soon after. Once the process is completed, any seat that remains vacant could come up in the subsequent process of admissions depending upon the guidelines issued by WBJEEB and other institutions involved.
The interesting thing about vacancies this year is that several renowned institutions are experiencing a large number of vacant seats.
Based on the current reports, Jadavpur University has 378 vacancies in the field of B.Tech among 1,190 due to centralized counseling.
This number is remarkable considering the fact that JU was said to have only 150-180 vacancies in the past four or five years. There were reports of vacancies in popular fields like Computer Science and Engineering (about 20) and Electrical Engineering (about 50).
But this does not mean that these streams are going to be available to all students. The merit list, category, course vacancy, and lastly, the rules of counseling will decide who will get a chance to take them up.
Another prominent name that features in the present scenario of vacancy is the University of Calcutta.
It has been reported that as many as 168 seats out of 478 seats for engineering programs have been left vacant in the process, compared to just 20-30 vacancies in earlier years.
This is something important for those candidates who missed their favorite stream in the previous sessions.
All the state-government-controlled, university-controlled, and MAKAUT-affiliated private engineering colleges located in West Bengal will have vacant seats, particularly in major branches such as Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical, among others.
Decentralized counselling may be considered the next chance after the completion of the counselling cycle.
According to the official notice from WBJEEB, decentralized e-counselling will be done for all the unallocated seats after the completion of centralized e-counseling. The schedule, seat matrix, and other related details shall be communicated separately.
This should not be confused by students with the concept of “direct admission,” where one can contact a college and get himself admitted into any vacant seat.
This system is meant for allocating the remaining seats in a systematic manner through counselling.
The process of decentralised counselling is more like the next prospect available after the counselling cycle ends.
However, WBJEEB has issued a notification about decentralised counselling online for the vacant seats after completion of the centralised e-counselling process. The date schedule, seat matrix and procedure for the same will be communicated separately.
Contrary to what most of the students think about direct admission, it is not as simple to get into a reputed college and secure a seat even if you are a WBJEE candidate.
The process involves allocation of the vacant seats by way of counselling.
The actual eligibility conditions will be disclosed through a final official notification. However, based on the previous vacancy seat admission process & current available information, here’s a generic eligibility for top WBJEE colleges with vacant seats:
✔ Must have a valid rank in WBJEE or qualified JEE Main.
✔ Passed 10+2 with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects, with a minimum of 45 to 50% marks.
✔ Must be at least 17 but not more than 25 years.
✔ Need to have proper documents like Aadhaar, WBJEE admit card, and board exam results.
✔ Other specific documents the college may require.
Wondering how to choose the right college and how to apply for the WBJEE vacant seats 2026?
Even though the vacancy for Jadavpur University is 378 and for the University of Calcutta is 168, this is still not a guaranteed admission opportunity.
The smartest approach is to track the official vacant-seat matrix, get a professional’s guidance, understand the category position, and act as quickly as possible.
Ask4clg is here to help you with a well-planned choice list that can make the difference between simply finding a vacant seat and finding a college you will actually be happy to join.
Vacant seats for WBJEE refer to those engineering, technology, or pharmacy seats which are left vacant even after all the rounds of centralized counseling. These seats can then be filled through the Online Decentralized Counseling for WBJEE-2026 as announced by WBJEEB.
The vacancies can differ from one college to another depending on courses, category, and counselling rounds. The 2026 counselling and seat details can be obtained from WBJEEB only, so it is advised that candidates refer to the authentic vacancy list.
The WBJEEB has formally announced Online Decentralized Counseling of WBJEE-2026. The aspirants must follow the events page of the Board for the schedule and relevant details.
The qualified candidates should adhere to the registration and choice-filling process according to WBJEEB for decentralised counselling. The best way is to use only the counselling portal of WBJEEB and follow its latest notice.
Yes. Qualified candidates are eligible to apply for admission on the basis of vacant seats through the decentralized counseling procedure. But having a vacant seat is not an assurance of admission, as other criteria also come into consideration.
Vacancies could arise in various streams like Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and other engineering streams, according to the college and counselling rounds. It is advisable for candidates not to presume about the vacancies in a particular stream but rather check the actual vacancy chart.
Students should normally ensure that all documents related to their WBJEE and JEE Main ranks, Class 10th and Class 12th certificates/marks sheets, proof of identity, photographs, and certificate of category and domicile (if applicable) are readily available.
Of course, having a lower rank will not be an automatic disqualifying factor for any candidate. But it all depends upon the number of seats left, the eligibility of the candidate, the category, and the criteria for selection of candidates.
Not in the literal sense of walk-in admission. Decentralised counselling is an officially sanctioned admission procedure for the available seats, and candidates need to meet the stipulated eligibility and selection criteria. WBJEEB has made a specific mention of online decentralised counselling in 2026.
